Chicago School Databases

The Chicago School Library subscribes to a wide range of electronic journals, electronic books and other electronic resources. If you are accessing these resources off-campus please use the IT supplied username and password.

EBSCO An easy-to-use interface to EBSCOhost databases including PsycINFO, PsycARTICLES and more.  Advantages to this database include being able to create an account and save searches.  Can also limit to full text and/or peer-reviewed journal articles

NEW – CQ Researcher SCQ Researcher is an award-winning online and print subscription news weekly providing authoritative and accessible content and analysis on newsworthy social and political issues. Published 44 times a year, each single-topic, 13,000-word CQ Researcher report is an original work, researched and reported by a seasoned journalist and professionally fact-checked. CQ Researcher content is renowned for its objectivity and breadth and depth of coverage. Reports cover topics in public policy, law and civil liberties, international affairs, economics, health, education, the environment, and technology.

SAGE SAGE is the world’s 5th largest journals publisher. Their portfolio includes more than 700 journals spanning the Humanities, Social Sciences, and Science, Technology, and Medicine, and more than 298 are published on behalf of learned societies and institutions. An easy-to-use interface includes being able to create an account and save searches.  All journal subscriptions currently starts from 1999 to present.

ProQuest ProQuest Dissertations and Theses provides full text to almost all materials.  ABI-Inform is a great database for those in the Business/Industrial Organizational field.

Psychiatryonline PsychiatryOnline is a powerful web-based portal that features DSM-V®—the most widely used psychiatric reference in the world—and The American Journal of Psychiatry as the cornerstones of an unsurpassed collection of psychiatric references from American Psychiatric Publishing, the most trusted and respected name in psychiatric publishing.

Social Sciences Citation Index(Web of Science): A multidisciplinary database, with searchable author abstracts, covering the journal literature of the social sciences. This is not a Full Text Database. Most items covered by this publisher are not currently available in full text but may be requested through inter-library loan.

Lexis Nexis Database designed specifically for those in the legal, risk management, corporate, government, law enforcement, accounting, and academic markets

Worldcat Check this database for books and other materials held in libraries throughout the world.

Academic Search Complete: Covers a wide range of academic fields, with more than 5,300 full-text periodicals, including 4,400 peer-reviewed journals. In addition to the full text of thousands of journal titles, this database provides access to other publications including monographs, reports, conference proceedings, etc. (EBSCO)

ArticleFirst: Indexes articles from the table of contents of nearly 12,500 journals, along with a list of libraries holding the journal title. This database is not full-text. (OCLC)

Clase and Periodica: CLASE indexes documents published in Latin American journals specializing in the social sciences and humanities. PERIÓDICA covers journals specializing in science and technology. This database is not full-text. (OCLC)

Electronic Collections Online: A collection of article abstracts from over 5000 scholarly journals across multiple disciplines. Coverage starts from 1995. This database is not full text. (OCLC)

OmniFile Full Text Select (H.W. Wilson): Articles are available from over 3000 publications across all disciplines in this full-text only database, many of which are peer-reviewed. (EBSCO)

PapersFirst: An index of over 580,000 papers covering multiple disciplines that have been presented at conferences worldwide. This database is not full text. (OCLC)

ProceedingsFirst: An OCLC index of worldwide conference proceedings. This database is not full text (OCLC)

Social Sciences Citation Index(Web of Science): A multidisciplinary database, with searchable author abstracts, covering the journal literature of the social sciences. This database is not full text.

Worldcat: This database holds bibliographic records for millions of books and other materials held in libraries throughout the world. This database is not full-text. (OCLC)

Digital Commons Network: Provides full-text open access to 600,000+ peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, dissertations, working papers, conference proceedings, and other original scholarly work from hundreds of universities and colleges. This constantly growing body of publications is curated by university librarians and their supporting institutions, and represents thousands of disciplines and subject areas.

Streaming Video Collections

Alexander Street Counseling Collection: Provides a rich online collection of video for the study of counseling, social work, psychotherapy, psychology, and psychiatric counseling.

Alexander Street LGBT Studies in Video: Provides students and researchers across disciplines a multi-content perspective on the LGBT political, cultural and social movements throughout the twentieth century and into the present day. It provides key resources of interest to students and researchers in sociology, anthropology, psychology, counseling, history, political science, gender studies, cultural studies, and religious studies.

Alexander Street Rehabilitation in Video: Significant collection of occupational therapy, physical/physiotherapy, and speech-language pathology. The collection allows students and faculty to easily find, cite, and share footage of top clinicians and academics explaining the underlying anatomical and neurological issues in specific patient populations, while demonstrating effective techniques and methods for their treatment. All of the video has been thoroughly indexed to allow users to search and filter content by patient details, therapist specialization, treatment method, presenting problem, and more. Video Collection: consists of over 200 titles of the leading practitioners in the fields of psychotherapy, counseling, social work and addiction treatment demonstrating clinical techniques and discussing their work.

Search Our Catalog: Numerous streaming videos are included in our library catalog.  Search by title or by subject and then filter your results to include “Film or Video” only.  This filter option can be located on the right-hand side of the search results screen under “Narrow Your Search: Format.”  The catalog will also include our physical DVD and VHS collection which is located in the library.  These items can be checked out or we also have DVD and VHS players available for your use.

It delivers core public health literature with centralized access to over 750 publications with over 520 in full-text.  With journals, news, trade publications, reports and more, ProQuest Public Health covers a wide variety of disciplines ranging from social sciences and biological sciences to business.

Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews: Contains full text articles, as well as protocols focusing on the effects of healthcare. (EBSCO)

Consumer Health Complete: Provides full text content covering all areas of health and wellness from mainstream medicine to the many perspectives of complementary, holistic and integrated medicine. (EBSCO)

Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effects (DARE): Includes abstracts of published systematic reviews on the effects of health care from around the world.  This database is not full-text. (EBSCO)

Health Source: Consumer Edition: Features access to the full text of a collection of consumer health publications. (EBSCO)

Health Source: Nursing/Academic Edition: Focuses on many medical disciplines. This database includes Lexi-PAL Drug Guide, which covers 1,300 generic drug patient education sheets with more than 4,700 brand names. (EBSCO)

MEDLINE with Full Text: Provides comprehensive full text access to medical journals, providing authoritative medical information on medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, the health care system, pre-clinical sciences, and much more. (EBSCO)

NHS Economic Evaluation Database (NHS EED): Provides access to information on the costs and effects of drugs, treatments and procedures. This database is not full text. (EBSCO)

AHFS Consumer Medication Information: Published by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, AHFS includes more than a thousand drug information monographs written in lay language for consumers and has been a Top Ten Award Winner in the Department of Health and Human Services National Consumer Education Materials Contest.  (EBSCO)

Tests, Trials, and Methodology

Cochrane Controlled Trials Register: A bibliography of controlled trials identified by contributors to the Cochrane Collaboration. Included are reports published in conference proceedings and in many other sources not currently listed in MEDLINE or other bibliographic databases. Health Technology Assessments (HTA): This full text collection provides details of completed and ongoing health technology assessments (studies of the medical, social, ethical and economic implications of healthcare interventions). Mental Measurements Yearbook: provides users with a comprehensive guide to over 2,000 contemporary testing instruments. Includes Tests in Print; a comprehensive bibliography to all known commercially available tests that are currently in print in the English language. (EBSCO)
